Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity clarified the developments of the Gulf connection and the date of completion of the connection with Jordan, while it indicated that the connection with Turkey was temporarily suspended due to the global energy crisis.
The spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Musa, said today, Saturday, to the Iraqi News Agency, "The connection with Jordan was done through the Risha-Qaim lines and the Al-Qaim transformational station. The work was referred to the General Electric Company to complete the line after we completed the study of the ribat points and determined the paths of the lines."
Moussa added, "We agreed with the Jordanian side to complete the work quickly, and it is hoped that the connection will be completed by next summer."
The ministry's spokesman indicated that "we have completed the lines (Slobi - Fayda), carrot - Mosul and the Kasik station with a capacity of 400 megawatts in all its branches, and we signed the final operation agreement with the Turkish side, which provided for the provision of 300 megawatts as a first stage for the northern governorates."
He continued, "The completion of the issue was halted due to the crisis in providing gas globally after the increase in demand for it as a result of the existing scarcity due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, which led to a rise in prices.
With regard to the Gulf connection, Moussa said, "Iraq has completed the completion of the "Faw Number One" and "Faw Abu Flous Number Two" lines, and we hope now that an agreement will be made on the linking line between the Iraqi Al-Faw station and the Kuwaiti Al-Zour station, which will be 220 km long, 80 km of which It will be inside Iraq and the rest in Kuwait, and we got good tariffs and reasonable prices.”
He added, "As for the connection with Saudi Arabia, we have signed an agreement stipulating that the carrier lines will link between Iraq and Saudi Arabia through the Arar port and the Yusufiya station, and there are currently technical studies to determine the connection points, the routes of the lines, and the economic and technical feasibility."
He pointed out that "the interconnection projects with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia will give reliability, readiness and high stability to the electrical system and pave the way for Iraq to be an important member of the Gulf and Arab energy market, while investing its strategic location to be a link and ruler over the transmission lines and an energy corridor between the Gulf and West Asian countries."
