The State of Law coalition, led by Nuri al-Maliki, expressed optimism about Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani's success in forming the government, calling on the political blocs to respect the constitutional contexts that give the right to the coordination framework to present the prime minister's candidate.
And coalition deputy Aref Al-Hamami said in a statement to (Al-Mada), that "the forces of the State Forces Alliance met yesterday and urged the Kurdish parties to expedite the agreement on a candidate for the post of President of the Republic." Al-Hamami added, "The talks are moving towards resolving all differences, with the upcoming presidential election session in light of the dialogues that the Kurds will reach." He pointed out, "The coordinating framework, as the most numerous bloc within Parliament and the State Administration Alliance, is determined to assign its candidate, Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani, to form the government."
Al-Hamami explained, "The Kurds, through negotiations, talked about the presence of three candidates, namely, Reber Ahmed Khaled, Barham Salih and Latif Rashid. Either they agree on one of them, or they go to Parliament, and the choice is for the deputies."
He stressed, "the coordination framework's keenness to perpetuate the Kurdish dialogues in the hope that they will reach a single candidate so that we can complete solutions in the Kurdish, Shiite and Sunni political houses."
Al-Hamami went on to say, “The current situation is not possible for the government to carry out daily tasks, and Iraq should have a government with full powers that can exercise its full role in terms of presenting bills, especially the budget.”
For his part, another member of the coalition, Bahaa Al-Nouri, stated that "the political blocs are now responsible for delaying the formation of the government, and we have reached a situation that cannot provide more time." Al-Nouri continued, "Indications indicate that there is a breakthrough in the political blockage by the return of parliament sessions and the selection of the first deputy speaker of the parliament, and then proceeding with the legislative and oversight process."
He pointed out that "the process of electing the president of the republic will be during the current month, so that after that, the candidate for the coordination framework, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, will be assigned to form the government."
Al-Nouri explained, "The current number of seats gives the coordination framework the right to present its candidate for the position of prime minister, with the keenness of all that activity returns to the state by enacting laws and other measures that are in the interest of the Iraqi street." And he indicated, "The current government is not integrated in powers, as public and private interests are suspended due to the inability of the executive authority to proceed with investment and other projects, as it performs its work under the conduct of daily tasks." Al-Nouri concluded, “The national and political duty requires the political blocs to help and support the formation of the government soon, and we are optimistic about that.”
In addition, State of Law MP Jassem al-Moussawi said that "the coordination framework will hold a session for selecting the president this week in order to proceed with forming the next government." Al-Moussawi added, "The state administration's alliance with a Kurdish agreement was reached, but things indicate a repetition of the 2018 scenario due to the continuing Kurdish dispute over the selection of a compromise candidate between the two parties." He added, "The general situation in Iraq cannot tolerate a further delay in forming the new government to end the political blockage that is currently occurring and provide services to citizens." Al-Moussawi added, "The political forces in Parliament will work to pass a consensual candidate that satisfies the Democratic Party and the National Union."
Until recently, the State of Law coalition questioned the election results and was trying to obstruct the Sadrist movement's efforts to form a national majority government, but after the Sadrists withdrew, it began talking about the right of the coordination framework to form a government.
