A minister describes Basra as "the mother of Iraq": it contributes more than 85 percent of the budget

Shafaq News/ The Minister of Industry and Minerals, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, described, on Saturday, Basra Governorate as the "mother of Iraq" for its contribution to securing more than 85 percent of the country's general financial budget.
Battal arrived earlier this morning to the province of Basra on his first field visit after assuming his duties in the ministry. He was received by the governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, the administrative deputy of the ministry, and a number of general managers and officials in the province.
The minister held a meeting with the governor upon his arrival, where the two sides discussed mechanisms for future cooperation to support industrial companies and projects and develop the industrial reality in the governorate, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
The statement quoted Battal as saying during the meeting: His first visit to the province of Basra is intended because of the great importance of this province, describing it as the mother of Iraq. .
The minister's visit comes to inspect the status of companies and factories affiliated with the ministry in Basra Governorate, follow up on the progress and regularity of work in them, stand closely on the obstacles that impede their progress, and search for the necessary ways to advance the status of these companies and factories and strengthen the industrial aspect in the province.
