The Iraqi Federation of Industries stressed the need for all industrialists to adhere to government decisions aimed at supporting the private sector, and while stressing that it had taken strict measures against those who manipulate “customs exemption” decisions and benefited from them outside the scope of the work assigned to them, it recommended the necessity of preventing price manipulation and relying on standard specifications in production. the National.
In a move that was widely welcomed by the economy, the Council of Ministers decided to impose customs duties of up to 200% on some imported products, with the aim of clearing the way for the national industry, which included different types of materials that can be produced locally, which received economic acclaim that emphasized the importance of the step in reviving reality. local industry, stimulating production and eliminating unemployment.
And the head of the Federation of Industries, Adel Akab, pointed out, according to a statement received by “Al-Sabah”, that “strict measures should be taken against any industrial project that used customs exemption outside the scope of work, and anyone who manipulates prices, and against any product that does not follow the standard specifications suitable for consumption,” as well as warning him of “ Projects that imitate any product or give an illusion of analogy and deceive the consumer.
Akab pointed out that these steps come in solidarity with the government program for the Prime Minister, and for the support it provides to the private industrial sector.
In turn, the economist, Ali Hadi Jouda, described during his interview with "Al-Sabah" the government decisions regarding raising customs tariffs on some products as "important", which would maximize and enhance national production and give it the ability to compete in the local market.
The expert, Jouda, explained that "the customs wall is the most important economic tool that the government possesses and is armed with to protect the local product, provided that it is properly applied and all border crossings are subject to the authority of the central administration, and this is difficult at the present time," stressing that this matter represents "a challenge and a real test for the private sector in Its ability to produce and compete in quantity and quality.
In order for such decisions to acquire their technical legitimacy, the expert believes that it is necessary that "they should be preceded by a real survey of the local private sector in its ability to fill the gap to ensure that the price does not rise and that the fragile classes bear the effects of the decision in the event of a shortage in supply and an increase in demand."
