The ministry said in a statement, which "NAS" received a copy of, (February 27, 2023), that "the ministry did not issue any statement about exemption from paying the collection amount to the agent upon receiving his prescribed shares of the basket and flour items."

The statement stated, "Such a decision requires government correspondence and approvals before deciding on it," noting that "the official collection amount decided per person for receiving the items of the food basket and flour is only 500 dinars."

In its statement, the Ministry of Commerce called on the media to "be careful in dealing with false news and adopt the news issued by the ministry and published through its official websites (Websat, Facebook, Telegram, Twitter, and Instagram)."
