A plan to increase the number of female judges in Iraq

The United Nations Mission expressed its support for the role of women in the Iraqi judiciary, and while it confirmed that Iraq was the first Arab country to appoint a woman as a judge, the Judicial Council revealed a plan to increase the number of female judges.
The head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faeq Zaidan, said: “The council continues its endeavors to enable female judges to assume positions commensurate with their distinguished capabilities in various specializations, due to our absolute belief in their capabilities.”

of the population of Iraq.
While the Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator in Iraq, Ghulam Muhammad Ishaq Zai, stated that his organization is “ready to support strategic plans in judicial justice systems and institutions, in order to achieve justice,” calling on member states to “promote the full and equal participation of women at all levels of the judicial authority, including
International activities.
Zay added, “The establishment of the Association of Women Judges establishes the fact that Iraq appointed the first woman to the position of judge in the world, Zakia Ismail Hakki.” Gender justice in the system of legislation and practices in 18 Arab countries.
