    [rtl]Baghdad-Iraq today:

12 lawsuits were filed against the Iraqi Municipal Imports Law, which stipulates the prohibition of the import, manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages in Iraq. The deputy head of the Beit al-Nahrain Union Party, who is one of the complainants about the law, said: “We filed a complaint because the law is contrary to the foundations of the constitution and human rights.”

According to the session schedule of the Iraqi Federal Court, the court is scheduled to hold a session on Wednesday (April 12, 2023) to consider 12 lawsuits registered against the Iraqi Municipal Imports Law of 2006, and nine of the complaints are against the ban on dealing and drinking alcohol specifically.

“The complaints were registered by three groups, some of whom are employees, managers and official figures in the government, some of them are politicians, and others are merchants who suffered the greatest damage as a result of this legal article,” said Joseph Selioh , deputy head of the Beit Al-Nahrain National Union Party.

We believe that this law, especially Article 14 of it, is completely contrary to the Iraqi constitution and constitutional foundations, and it completely contradicts the principles of human rights and individual freedoms. If this article is applied, it will have very negative consequences for Iraq and society, so we have filed a complaint against its implementation," Salioh said. .

Saliwa, who was a deputy in the Iraqi Council of Representatives during the previous parliamentary sessions, is optimistic that the Federal Court will decide the case in their favour, and says: “If the constitution and legal institutions are relied on and Iraq as a multi Component and national state is taken into account, a decision must be taken in favor of the plaintiffs, even if they want to take The country is about to close down and display a bad model that contradicts individual rights, so let them take the decision in favor of implementing the law.”[/rtl]
