On May 24, the Federal Supreme Court held the last session of the eighth deliberation in the lawsuit (248 / Federal / 2022) and similar lawsuits related to challenging the constitutionality of extending the mandate of the Kurdistan Parliament for a year after the end of the legal mandate, and decided to set the day (May 30, 2023) to pronounce the verdict.

And the Kurdistan Parliament, during its session held on 10/9/2022, agreed by a majority of votes to extend the current fifth session until the fall of 2023 due to the lack of agreement between the political forces to hold the parliamentary elections scheduled every 4 years.

The former Speaker of the Parliament of Kurdistan, Youssef Sadiq, and the movement of the new generation, filed lawsuits with the Federal Court to cancel the law issued by the Presidency of the Parliament of Kurdistan, which was directed to extend the term of Parliament for an additional year due to the failure to hold elections in the region, and the plaintiffs relied on articles and concepts in the constitution that stipulate the necessity of holding elections. at the appointed time.
