Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Agriculture announced a plan to invest in desert areas, while stressing the need to legislate the agricultural investment law, given its importance.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mahdi Sahar, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), followed by "Al-Iqtisad News": "The Ministry of Agriculture intends to legislate the Agricultural Investment Law due to its specificity and importance, which differs from other economic investments, as it is possible to invest in the main links, such as establishing factories to produce agricultural inputs and produce Fertilizers, pesticides, and the mechanization of modern irrigation systems,” noting that “all of these matters are promising investment opportunities.”
He continued, "It is possible to invest in marketing agricultural products, especially agricultural marketing companies, as well as in the field of food processing, such as dairy canning, packaging, processing dates, and marketing them abroad."
He added, "There is a great investment opportunity in the field of desert land investment, due to the presence of vast arable lands, in addition to the presence of groundwater," noting that "the ministry has plans to invest in desert lands as a result of water scarcity and low water revenues in the Tigris and Euphrates, and thus expansion In the desert agricultural areas, whether for individuals, investors, or investment companies, whether they are local, Arab, or international, and it is considered a good investment opportunity for the fertility of the land and the availability of groundwater in it.
He explained that "the increase in the desert cultivated areas reflected positively on the marketed quantities of the wheat crop for the current season, amounting to 5 million and 200 thousand tons," calling on investors to "invest in desert lands and establish agricultural and animal projects."
