    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced today, Tuesday (September 12, 2023), that he will visit the Iranian capital, Tehran, tomorrow, Wednesday.
Fouad Hussein said in a press statement, “Iraq is committed to the security agreement with Iran, and I have a visit to Tehran tomorrow.”
The Foreign Minister pointed out that the constitution does not allow any party to use Iraqi territory to attack neighboring countries, stressing that Iraq has taken the necessary measures to remove opposition groups from the Iraqi-Iranian border.
On the twenty-eighth of last August, Hisham Al-Rikabi, the media advisor to the Prime Minister, revealed the details of the security agreement with Iran regarding armed groups in the north of the country, saying that it stipulates three points, which are preventing the infiltration of militants and handing over wanted persons in accordance with the law, in addition to disarmament and removing camps. .
The Iraqi advisor sent a message to neighboring countries stating that Baghdad will prevent the presence of any armed groups that threaten the security and safety of those countries, and stressed his country's keenness to maintain the relationship with its neighbors, especially those linked to relations that he described as strong.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry had previously announced that Tehran and Baghdad had reached an agreement to disarm what it called “armed terrorist groups” in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, transfer them to other places next month, and close their military headquarters.
Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said in a weekly press briefing, “Iran and Iraq have reached an agreement under which Iraq commits to disarming separatist militants and terrorist groups present on its territory, closing their bases, and moving them to other places before next September 19.”
The Iranian spokesman did not specify the locations to which the militants would be transferred.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed that "if the agreement is not implemented on time, we will fulfill our responsibilities towards the terrorist groups in Iraqi Kurdistan."
Tehran usually accuses the autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan region of harboring what it considers terrorist groups involved in attacks against Tehran, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has often targeted the bases of those groups.
