Yesterday, Saturday, October 14, 2023, the holy city of Karbala witnessed the conference of the National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions in the Holy Shrine of Hussein and in the Hall of the Seal of the Prophets (PBUH), in the presence of experts and personalities interested in this matter, and the Holy City of Karbala was chosen because it is a city sanctified by God. Glory be to Him, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), and the importance of its strategic location, regional, Arab, and global.
The Deputy Secretary-General of the Holy Shrine of Hussein, Dr. Alaa Dia al-Din, said, “From the comfort of my master and lord, Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and the holy city, you are invited to be open to these projects, which may be for a distant future. There are many projects, including waste treatment projects, the likes of which are not found in Iraq, and the Holy Shrine of Hussein.” I have begun studying these projects, and soon a project will be completed. Therefore, all humanitarian projects are of great interest to the administration of the Holy Imam Hussein Shrine.
He explained, "The shrine has completed large projects in the agricultural and industrial projects studied, and the most important projects are human construction, as human construction has a wide and significant impact on the environment. This came during the hosting of the Holy Shrine of Husseini, a conference for the Ministry of Environment regarding its initiative on managing religious gatherings and events in Holy Karbala." Dr. Taha Dara Al-Saadi, Advisor to the Minister of the Ministry of Water Resources, said in a statement to Noon News Agency, saying, “The conference discusses sustainable cities in the holy city of Karbala, and we, as a team, are working on the National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions, considering that this initiative was established by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers to address climate change and the existing challenges.” The solutions, and one of the most important solutions to reduce the effects of climate change, reduce desertification and temperature changes, and reduce emissions polluting the atmosphere, is to resort to sustainable cities, whether using renewable energy or scientific methods that are in harmony with nature and do not lead to conflict between man and nature. Holy Karbala is under very great pressure. By visitors and we notice that it is visited annually by millions of visitors along with its existing population as a process of rationalizing energy use and using modern, sustainable and renewable methods to reduce pressures. This conference is established to be the beginning of these experiences in the holy city of Karbala.
He added, "When we meet at the holy shrine of Hussein, we consider that there is a successful model for what we want to implement in Iraq. We notice that the shrine has successful experiences and models in its projects. We call on everyone to benefit from these successful experiences. We notice great development in its projects, and it is the best and most successful model in Iraq." .
On the one hand, the expert and environmental auditor at the Ministry of Oil, Dr. Muhammad Hamid Al-Ezzi, spoke to us, “We are presenting within the national initiative to rationalize energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions, which is supervised by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and implemented by the Ministry of Environment. In turn, we presented the Sustainable Cities Project to transform dilapidated developing cities into smart and flexible sustainable cities.” In the meantime, this city can be transformed to address some files, which are eight files, including the environment, air, energy, oil and gas, and the files of institutions, people, and cadres, the top of which is the education file. We deal with each of these files within the international standards that pertain to this file, and it has a negative or negative impact. "It is positive for transforming the city into a sustainable city, and we, in turn, use international measurements specific to each of these important files and transform the developing city into a sustainable one, and then into a smart one and into a flexible one."
He stated, "We chose the holy city of Karbala. There are a number of factors. The most important reason is that it is a city that God Almighty sanctified through Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), and that it is an important city in the Arab and international world, due to its strategic location, and the fact that it contains cultural and scientific materials, in addition to the large number of cultural centers in the city, as well as the presence of resources." Natural resources are plentiful, so we were directed to the city of Karbala and the project presented sustainable cities so that Karbala would be a role model for transforming the rest of Iraqi cities.”
