    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan confirmed today, Saturday (October 28, 2023), that the Kurdistan Region is living in a state of legislative vacuum and that legislative elections should be held as soon as possible, while noting that the region should have participated in the Iraqi provincial council elections with a single list.
The party’s legal center official, Talar Latif, said in an article seen by “Baghdad Today” that “elections are one of the pillars of democracy in the world, and in order for them to be effective, they need laws that are compatible with the political reality of life,” indicating that “the laws stipulate that elections be transparent.” It is fair, consistent with the will of the voter, free from fraud, and results in a time-bound electoral cycle .”

She stressed the necessity of “not allowing some parties to allocate huge funds and budgets for their electoral campaigns, especially if their source is unknown or their source is oil revenues and public money,” noting that “elections achieve their goals in democratic countries, while in other countries the matter is quite the opposite, so we do not see the person “The right one arrives at the right place .”

She pointed out that “the Kurdish political parties were the first to participate in the provincial council elections in Iraq with one list, and this is what the National Union called for, to avoid engaging in counter-election campaigns against some and to preserve the Kurdish voice from dispersion and loss. ”

Regarding the legislative elections in the Kurdistan Region, Latif confirmed that “the Kurdistan Region has entered a completely legislative vacuum as a result of the end of the legal period for the fifth session of Parliament, and elections should be held as quickly as possible. ”

The official of the Legal Center in the National Union, Talar Latif, continued, “The disputes within the regional government and the decline in freedom of expression in Kurdistan, especially after activists in Bahdinan were thrown into detention centers, are all factors that contributed to undermining the region’s position,” calling on the political parties and parties in the region to “put their differences aside.” And strive to consolidate the region’s position and return it to what it was during the period of President Jalal Talabani .”
