The Parliamentary Health Committee revealed that the government is seeking, during the coming period, to implement the (Health Insurance) law, which it is hoped will be implemented initially on employees and special grades, before circulating the experiment to citizens.
A member of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Bassem Al-Gharabi, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “We realize that there have been accumulations over two decades, and thus this has led to the collapse of all health institutions, and we are also aware of the great scarcity of medicines for treatments prescribed for cancerous diseases.” And other chronic and incurable diseases due to their high prices,” noting that “the budget for the current year 2023 is the best allocations in twenty years, as about 10 trillion dinars have been allocated to the requirements of the ministry, and one trillion and 600 billion for the subject of treatments and medicines.”
Al-Gharabi explained, “Despite the availability of allocations, the Ministry of Health cannot pay approximately 30 to 40 percent of the treatment amounts to the citizen, and the rest is borne by the latter and falls on his shoulders.”
A member of the Parliamentary Health Committee revealed that “the Ministry of Health is seeking during the coming period to activate health insurance, and if it is activated and its procedures are carried out correctly and according to what has been legislated, there will be a major change in the health reality, given that this law involves affluent citizens to create some Health institutions and activating private health institutions,” indicating that “health insurance will not apply to everyone currently, but rather to some, and will initially be for employees and ministries and for a specific category of up to 300 or 400 thousand employees.”
Al-Gharabi pointed out, “This experiment, at its beginning, must be studied in order for it to succeed and the failure that occurred in it to be addressed. Therefore, it will not be applied to citizens, but rather to employees and special grades only.”
