Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Commerce called on food merchants to take into account the purchasing power of Iraqis, while confirming the lifting of the import license restriction for basic materials needed by the citizen.
The ministry’s spokesman, Muthanna Al-Fariji, said, “The Ministry of Commerce is ready to go to the market to create a state of balance for any material that experiences an abnormal increase,” stressing that “the ministry has lifted the import license restriction for natural persons and companies wishing to import basic materials that the citizen needs, such as foodstuffs.” Or construction materials, electrical materials, or pharmaceutical materials.”
Al-Fariji added, “The Central Bank’s platform is also available to everyone for food importers, at the official price, and therefore the increase is unjustified, and reflects a state of greed among some merchants.”
He called on "food merchants to take into account the purchasing power of Iraqis, and not to benefit twice, once from the difference in the price of the dollar, and once from selling the same item."
