Today, Tuesday (February 20, 2024), the head of the Parliamentary Rights Bloc, Saud Al-Saadi, called on the Public Prosecution Service to take legal measures against the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the employees who refrain from implementing the decision of the Federal Supreme Court regarding the Khor Abdullah Agreement.
Al-Saadi addressed the Public Prosecution, according to a document obtained by “Baghdad Today”, that “based on the role assigned to your agency in ensuring the highest interests of the people in accordance with the provisions of Article (2/First) of the Public Prosecution Law No. (49) of 2017,” as he put it. .
He added, "The Minister of Foreign Affairs had previously been approached in accordance with our letter No. (599) dated 9/17/2023, containing the sending of the decision of the Federal Supreme Court No. (105, united 194/Federal/2023) issued on 9/4/2023, containing the unconstitutionality of Law No. ( 42) of 2013 (Law Ratifying the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Iraq and the Government of the State of Kuwait regarding the Regulation of Navigation in Khor Abdullah).”
Al-Saadi continued: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded, according to letter No. M.K. 1/21/1532 on 12/25/2023, in the negative and refrained from depositing the Federal Court’s decision on the unconstitutionality of the law ratifying the Khor Abdullah Agreement with the General Secretariat of the United Nations.”
