Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: The quantities of Iraqi oil exported to Jordan witnessed an increase during the first two months of the current year 2024 by 52% compared to the same period last year.
The total of these exports during the first two months of the year amounted to about 897.4 thousand barrels, including 433.1 thousand barrels last month (February), while the total of Iraqi exports to Jordan amounted to approximately 590.3 thousand barrels during the same period last year, including 280.7 thousand barrels during the month of February of that year. General.
The reason for this increase is due to the high rate of daily imports from Iraq, as Jordan and Iraq announced last July an agreement to increase the quantities of Iraqi crude oil exported to the Kingdom.
An Iraqi discount for Jordan of $16
Accordingly, the Iraqi side increased the quantities supplied from 10,000 barrels per day to 15,000 barrels per day, since the beginning of July, and under the same contractual conditions contained in the memorandum of understanding for the processing of crude oil signed between the governments of the two countries on May 4 of the same year, so that these imports constitute about 15% of Jordan's daily need for crude oil, at a time when Iraq is granted a discount of $16 per barrel, based on the monthly Brent crude rate.
Unlike previous months, data issued by the Iraqi SOMO Oil Company, which is responsible for supplying oil to the Kingdom of Jordan, did not show the monthly value of these imports or the average selling price compared to the world price.
Under this memorandum, the Jordanian side is committed to providing tanks to transport Iraqi crude oil from the modern Kirkuk depot in Iraq to the Jordanian oil refinery in Zarqa in Jordan. The tanks are distributed equally between Jordanian and Iraqi companies, while Iraq changed the oil loading area to the Kingdom during the past year. , to become (the modern Kirkuk warehouse) instead of the site of the Baiji refinery.
Jordan's imports from Iraq are one of the sources of securing its need for energy resources, while it produces, according to figures from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, limited quantities locally, as the Kingdom produced about 95 thousand barrels in 2022 compared to 107 thousand barrels in the previous year.
The largest proportion of Jordan's energy needs for generating electricity is covered by natural gas imported through pipelines, in addition to the electrical energy produced from renewable energy projects.
