    Economy News _ Baghdad
Iraqi oil exports to Jordan last October amounted to about 464,728 barrels, compared to the quantities exported during the previous September, which amounted to about 449,423 barrels.
According to recent statistics from the oil marketing company “SOMO”; The average daily export of Iraqi oil to Jordan has reached 15 thousand barrels per day.
The average price of a barrel of Iraqi oil to Jordan was about $72 during the month of October (2023), compared to about $78 per barrel recorded in the previous September.
It is noteworthy that Iraqi oil exports to Jordan have risen to about 15 thousand barrels per day, under an agreement updating the previous agreement, which required the sale of 10 thousand barrels per day of Iraqi oil to Amman, at prices about 16 dollars less than the price of a barrel during the month.
    Temporary cessation of oil exports
Last October 25, 2023, Iraqi oil exports to Jordan temporarily stopped for 24 hours, against the backdrop of the outbreak of demonstrations near the border crossing between the two countries.
At that time, an official source in the Jordanian Ministry of Energy told the “Specialized Energy Platform” that up to 31 tankers transporting Iraqi oil arrived in the Kingdom, after stopping as a result of demonstrations near the border crossing.
The demonstrations resulted in the disruption of exports for a day. What could lead to a shortage of 15 thousand barrels of Iraqi crude oil is the volume of daily exports, which the Jordanian side did not receive at the time, while efforts continued to compensate for these supplies.
According to a statement by the Jordanian Ministry of Energy, The tankers, which were idle in the Ramadi area, returned as a result of demonstrations near the Trebil border crossing for reasons related to the safety of drivers and equipment.
    Jordan's imports of Iraqi oil
Sources in the Jordanian Ministry of Energy told the "Specialized Energy Platform" that the temporary cessation of tankers did not affect Jordan; This is due to the Jordanian Petroleum Refinery’s major contracts with Saudi Aramco, through which it imports most of its crude oil needs.
In early May 2023, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, signed a new memorandum of understanding for oil processing between Iraq and Jordan, while on the Iraqi side, it was signed by the Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani.
Jordan's imports of Iraqi oil constitute only 7% of the Kingdom's oil needs. Therefore, the agreement between the two sides included an increase in the volume of supplies by 50%. Daily quantities increased from 10,000 barrels per day to 15,000. This increased the monthly quantities from 300 thousand barrels to about 450 thousand barrels per month.
Under the oil processing memorandum, Jordan is committed to providing tanks to transport Iraqi oil to the oil refinery in the city of Zarqa. The trucks are distributed equally between companies in Iraq and Jordan, while Jordan buys Iraqi oil at a discount of $16 per barrel, based on the monthly Brent crude rate.
