    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Nihal Al-Shammari, confirmed today, Sunday (March 31, 2024), that the American side supports the Sudanese and his government, and the sanctions on Iraqi banks are not aimed at putting pressure on him but on other parties, noting that the Sudanese will work to lift the sanctions.
Al-Shammari told "Baghdad Today", "There is a movement by the Parliamentary Finance Committee with Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani with the aim of lifting the US sanctions on some Iraqi banks, and there are some banks that were wronged by the US sanctions decision."
She indicated that "these sanctions have greatly affected the financial and economic situation in Iraq, and there is a possibility that the US Treasury will lift the sanctions on some Iraqi banks, especially since the United States of America supports the Sudanese and his government."
She added, "The sanctions file on banks is not intended to pressure the government, but rather to pressure other parties, but Washington is supportive of the Iraqi government, and there is a possibility that Sudanese will succeed in lifting part of those sanctions during the next stage."
The number of banks that were punished or banned from dealing in dollars without imposing sanctions on them reached 32 Iraqi banks, out of 72 banks registered in the country, according to specialists.
