[rtl]Baghdad / NINA / Chairman of the National Investment Commission Haider Makiya discussed with the United Nations Development Team (UNDP) the Climate Investment Plan (CIP).
A statement by the Commission stated that "the Chairman of the National Investment Commission met today, Thursday, with the United Nations Development Team (UNDP), headed by the Director of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program Portfolio, Mamunur Rashid.
He added that during the meeting, efforts to enhance cooperation between the Commission and the United Nations to improve the investment environment in the country were discussed, as well as the importance of social and environmental justice and taking into account the citizen's right in the field of climate change and climate investment.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Commission reviewed the role of the National Investment Commission in providing investment opportunities that would reduce emissions, including solar energy, as the Commission granted an investment license for a solar power plant for the French company Total to produce 1,000 megawatts of electricity, and work is underway on solar energy projects in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity.
Makiya stressed that Iraq is currently an attractive environment for foreign investments, as the Singapore Mediation Agreement was signed in April 2024, in addition to the fact that Iraq is among the countries that have included recognition of foreign judgments in its laws, indicating that the Authority is currently working with the United Nations Development Program to prepare a climate investment plan in cooperation with the relevant sectoral authorities. / End of page[/rtl]
