"New Cities" is a gateway to alleviate the housing crisis

The new cities that the government is adopting today in the country’s governorates are one of the gateways that are relied upon to alleviate the housing crisis, especially with the population growth that Iraq is witnessing.
Since the government announced the commencement of the establishment of new city projects, the Ministry of Construction and Housing has begun the actual work to develop the designs for those cities, in addition to selecting and defining the areas to start work and selecting the offers.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Construction and Housing, Istibraq Sabah, told Al-Sabah: "Moving forward with projects to relieve traffic congestion will not affect the work of the ministry and its projects related to new cities," indicating that "the New Cities Authority was formed during the formation of the new government and has already started its work and is continuing with it."
He continued that "(Al-Jawahiri Residential City) has reached the stages of approving and implementing the designs, in order to open the door for electronic applications," noting that "(Ali Al-Wardi City) will witness the laying of the foundation stone in the coming days."
Sabah explained that "applications for the cities will be electronically through a window and an official website designated for them, as the website will include designs and prices, and each city will have an official website showing all its details."
The area of "Al-Jawahiri Residential City" is 7,121 dunums, and is located on the Abu Ghraib-Anbar expressway and between the old expressway, and is being invested at a value of 2 billion dollars to implement 30,000 housing units sold directly by the investor, and 10,000 fully serviced residential plots sold by the state.
While the "Ali Al-Wardi Residential City" is located southeast of the capital, Baghdad, and will provide 120,000 housing units for citizens, in addition to establishing service, health, educational and commercial centers according to international standards.
For his part, economic expert, Duraid Al-Anzi, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah": "We need to know the reality of the country's housing situation through the Ministry of Planning's announcement of the number of bonds, and on the basis of that, the actual need for housing units is determined. We must also rely on a mechanism that leads to more positive results than the one currently adopted, by following the mechanism of building housing units for state employees and workers who have social security, and that they are built through monthly deductions from their salaries."
He pointed out that "the mechanism means starting with 6 to 8 housing units that are guaranteed to be paid and meet the needs of citizens, and the position of activating the construction industries is strengthened so that there is a process for disposing of the product, and that it is legally imposed on everyone who builds a house, building or residential complex to take 50% of their needs for construction materials from the local product, and is supported by a decision issued in this regard."
Al-Anzi continued, "This mechanism creates an employment sector that can attract about two million citizens, and for a long period of time to work, especially with the population increase in Iraq, and the interest of citizens of neighboring countries, and helps in bringing in recycled money to the government, and reduces speculators, drug dealers, and money thieves, and maintains price rates in the real estate markets and construction materials markets."
