The Council said in a statement received by Sumaria News, "The President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Dr. Faiq Zidane, received today, Wednesday, 8/7/2024, a group of women members of the Council of Representatives and the Iraqi Women's Network, and discussed with them the observations related to the draft amendment to the current Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959, as amended."

A video clip published by the Judicial Council showed that the majority of women are opponents of amending the law, led by MP Sarwa Abdul Wahid, MP Nour Al-Jalehawi, and a number of other women.
