Member of Parliament Saud Al-Saadi announced today, Thursday, that the Federal Supreme Court (the highest judicial authority in the country) rejected an appeal he filed against the baseline of the Iraqi territorial sea.[/size]
[size=45]Al-Saadi said on Facebook, “In a session without pleading, the Federal Court rejects our lawsuit challenging the baseline of the Iraqi territorial sea.”[/size]
[size=45]He added, "In a session without pleading, the Federal Court also set August 18, 2024 to consider our appeal against the so-called Basra-Haditha pipeline project."[/size]
[size=45]Al-Saadi continued, saying, “In all cases, we will continue our control measures to preserve Iraqi money, wealth, and sovereignty.”[/size]
[size=45]The maritime baseline is a line measured from the territorial sea of a country and the waters beyond it are considered the territorial waters of the coastal state.[/size]
[size=45]The baseline is a straight line connecting the heads of the prominent points of the coast of a country, provided that it does not stray from the general direction of the coast and that the waters behind it are sufficiently connected to the land of that country.[/size]
