    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Independent MP Kazem Al-Fayyadh confirmed today, Saturday (August 24, 2024), that the presence of most advisors to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani is due to political favoritism for some blocs and parties.
Al-Fayadh told Baghdad Today, "There are dozens of advisors to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani without any real work, and some hold this position as part of the political courtesy process for some influential blocs and parties, and even these positions have become part of the political quota."
He added, "Some advisors are actually an extra link, some of them do not receive any real advice, and some of them only cost the state a salary and other allowances," calling on the government to "adhere to the advisors' law that specified the number of advisors in the presidencies, and not to establish armies of advisors because of political favors, nothing more."
The independent MP stressed that "some of these advisors were imposed on Al-Sudani, and for this reason he cannot remove this title from them, and all of this is due to the political quota system and the compliments that brought Iraq to what it is currently."
The law regulating the work of advisors, which was voted on by Parliament in 2017, stipulates in its first article that the three presidencies (representatives, ministers, and the presidency) may appoint a maximum of 6 advisors who are directly linked to the presidency of the relevant body, provided that the appointment is made in accordance with a republican decree .
With the publication of the law in the Official Gazette No. 4702 issued on January 2, 2023, it has become imperative to implement it.
The purpose of this law, as stated in the reasons, is to “raise work performance, avoid overlap between advisory work and executive work, and resolve the files of advisors appointed on an acting basis.”
Observers believe that “the Prime Minister’s advisors are nothing but tools of the parties to ensure an additional presence in power, imposed on Al-Sudani, and not Al-Sudani alone, but there are hundreds of advisors appointed to former prime ministers, and these will continue to receive more than two-thirds of the salaries they receive, which means millions of dollars annually, and they are originally unproductive and constitute a huge burden on the state budget.”
