Baghdad Municipality is implementing a project to re-operate traffic lights at more than 159 intersections in Baghdad, as well as the smart streets project and the development of Airport Street from the main VIP lounge towards the Green Zone, indicating that these projects are part of 150 projects to beautify the capital.
Baghdad Municipality spokesman Mohammed Al-Rubaie said in an interview with "Al-Sabah" followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "among the projects prepared by the Projects Department and the technical agent and with direct follow-up by the Mayor of Baghdad and according to central directives, several projects have been launched in preparation for the upcoming Arab International Summit."
He added, "The traffic light project and smart streets are neglected projects for years, and large and numerous offers have been submitted by companies to pave and develop Airport Street from the main VIP lounge towards the Green Zone and other streets that will be a path for official and Arab delegations, in addition to tourists."
He stressed, "There are 159 intersections in Baghdad, the main intersections that cover all areas of Baghdad, and these intersections either lack traffic lights or are out of service. Accordingly, the tender was studied and the implementation process will begin from 1/9 until the beginning of next March, and Baghdad will be in its new look."

Al-Rubaie continued, “The implementation of these projects comes within 150 projects that were listed in the Ministry of Planning, all of which are to beautify and show Baghdad with a civilized character. Approval was obtained from the Ministry of Planning and Financial Allocation. These projects are in the process of being officially referred by the concerned agents and the Projects Department, and then they will be referred for implementation by specialized, solid companies that are concerned with them.”
