Baghdad hosts the annual conference on competition and anti-monopoly

It is expected that Baghdad will witness the annual conference of the Competition and Anti-Monopoly Council activities on December 5, with the aim of enhancing cooperation and exchange of expertise between economic and international institutions.
The Council is a governmental institution established in March 2023 in accordance with Competition and Anti-Monopoly Law No. 14 of 2010.
The Chairman of the Council, Ahmed Younis Qasim, told Al-Sabah, on the sidelines of his visit to the headquarters of the Baghdad Economic Forum, that “the Council plays a supportive role for the work system within the Iraqi market, which is seeking an effort capable of achieving the development goals sought by the country.”
He pointed out that “the large volume of work in Iraq requires cooperation with solid institutions that possess expertise that can be employed to serve the Iraqi economy and move it to a better stage that suits Iraq’s economic capabilities, including the Baghdad Economic Forum, which embraces major expertise in all aspects of the economy.”
In turn, the head of the Baghdad Economic Forum, Faris Al-Salman, explained the importance of competition in developing the capabilities of the private sector, noting that Iraq must have a private sector capable of saving time and effort by possessing advanced technology, as competitiveness contributes to creating a race in the private sector to possess advanced technology that must be employed in implementing projects in all regions of Iraq.
Al-Salman expressed his support for the Council for Competition Affairs and the Prevention of Monopoly and the need for serious cooperation between the institutions concerned with economic affairs in the country with the aim of implementing economic policies in a way that achieves the highest levels of benefit for the national economy.
He stated that Iraq has expertise that has its weight locally, regionally and internationally and can be employed in a way that supports the development trends sought by Iraq, especially since human and natural resources can create a sustainable economy that achieves well-being for society and preserves the rights of future generations.
At the end of the meeting, Qasim extended an invitation to the head of the forum, Faris Al-Salman, to attend the first annual conference of the council, which will be held in Baghdad on December 5, 2024, stressing the importance of these events in enhancing cooperation and exchange of expertise between Arab and international economic institutions.
