Mawazine News - Erbil
The head of the Federal Integrity Commission, Haider Hanoun, confirmed today, Wednesday, that the real battle against corruption has begun, while the Council of Representatives called for hosting him in an official session.
Hanoun said in a press conference held in Erbil Governorate, which was followed by Mawazine News, that "the efforts with the Integrity Commission in the Kurdistan Region have been unified on the basis of success," stressing that "our presence in Erbil is to issue the joint agreement to combat corruption."
Hanoun explained: "I only own two plots of land in Maysan Governorate, and what has been circulated about my extortion of the departments is incorrect," stressing that "today we announce the beginning of our battle against corruption."
He called on the Council of Representatives to "officially host me in a public session of Parliament, and then either confirm or dismiss me," noting that there are "those who ask me about the theft of the century and referring Nour Zuhair to the corruption court in one case."
He continued, "The accused Nour Zuhair forged 114 financial instruments and must be punished with 114 rulings. He has crimes other than stealing tax deposits. He stole 720 dunums in the Shatt al-Arab and stole customs deposits worth more than a trillion dinars," stressing that "we will not accept that the people's money goes to waste."
He explained that "Mustafa al-Kadhimi granted plots of land to buy loyalties and Judge Diaa Jaafar received one of them," noting that "the Integrity Commission is weak and Judge Diaa Jaafar cannot use his authority against us."
He stressed that "we do not accept covering up the theft of tax deposits. There are two defendants. Why have they not been tried for two years?" He noted that "Iraq's railways were sold entirely in this case and there is a theft of $18 billion. However, it has not been considered by Judge Diaa Jaafar for two months."
"The protectors of corruption sit in chairs," he explained, adding, "We are imprisoned with honor and do not accept covering up the case of stealing tax deposits. The House of Representatives is responsible for proving that the Integrity Commission is favoring the corrupt or vice versa."
Hanoun called on the Supreme Judicial Council to "replace the judges of the Integrity Commission annually and support our request to host Judge Diaa Jaafar in Parliament," explaining, "We do not accuse Judge Diaa Jaafar and we call on Parliament to host us regarding dealing with corruption files."
