    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Political researcher Mujasha' Al-Tamimi commented on Tuesday (October 8, 2024) on the implications of the Iraqi government's statement regarding the "Arab brothers", while stressing that the government is the only one that represents Iraq's official position on foreign policy.
Al-Tamimi said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The Iraqi government represents Iraq's official position on foreign policy and has been facing political positions towards some Arab countries such as Jordan, the Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for days. He pointed out that some political leaders within the Coordination Framework and outside it and within the Shiite component held these countries responsible for what happened in Gaza and southern Lebanon. Some political forces, including MP Hadi Al-Salami, demanded the enactment of a law obligating the government to cut off subsidized oil exports to Jordan under the pretext of Jordan's position towards what is happening in Lebanon and Gaza."
He added, "Some parties of the State Administration Coalition, including Sheikh Qais Khazali in his speech yesterday on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Flood, and Abu Alaa Al-Walaei, on behalf of a number of Shiite representatives, such as Representative Youssef Al-Kalabi and Representative Hadi Al-Salami, issued threats to these countries."
He explained, "We must remember that there are international obligations on Iraq regarding international relations, and perhaps everyone remembers that King Abdullah participated in the first phone call between Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and US President Joe Biden in February 2023, and it seems that the Iraqi government was embarrassed and therefore issued the statement confirming that the government represents the official position of the Iraqi state."
Today, Tuesday (October 8, 2024), the Iraqi government spokesman, Bassem Al-Awadi, confirmed the government’s rejection of the accusations of treason directed at Arab brothers and insulting them.
Al-Awadi said in a statement received by Baghdad Today, "The Iraqi government affirms its continuation in supporting all international and regional efforts aimed at stopping the Zionist aggression against our steadfast people in Gaza and Lebanon, and employing all its international and regional presence, and ties with brothers and friends, for that goal, in addition to providing relief and supporting the steadfastness of the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples."
He added, "At the same time, the government stresses its rejection of the accusations of treason directed at our brothers and the insults to them, especially as they seek in the same way to protect the Palestinian people and affirm their right, as well as the right of the Lebanese people, to sovereignty over their land and protect their borders, far from the brutality and recklessness of the enemy."
He pointed out that "the official positions of Iraq are expressed exclusively by the government, through its policies and steps based on the constitution and the democratic system, and its responsibility in formulating general policies, and appreciating the supreme interest of the Iraqi people."
