    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
An informed Iraqi source revealed, today, Wednesday (October 9, 2024), that the US embassy in Baghdad sent five warning messages during the past 72 hours, warning of the danger of dragging Baghdad into a conflict between Iran and Israel.
The source explained in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The US embassy is on high alert, as it held a series of meetings with important Iraqi political elites during this period, noting that "the embassy held five direct meetings, which included clear warning messages about the danger of dragging Baghdad into the circle of conflict between Iran and Israel, especially with the recent tensions and mutual shelling between them and the possibility of this circle expanding."
The embassy stressed that "Iraq is an important country for the US administration, and it is trying to pressure Iraq to be neutral and away from the consequences of this conflict, which may expand at any moment."
The source said, "The embassy expressed its deep concern about the seriousness of the repeated bombing, especially what happened near Baghdad International Airport a few weeks ago.
The source pointed out that "the capabilities of the Iraqi factions are growing and they possess drones and missiles, which raises American concerns that they will be the next target for these factions, especially with the truce that has been ongoing for many months."
The source confirmed that "the embassy is talking about the role of the US administration in reducing tension in the Middle East, but it is not sure that its pressures will bear fruit, especially with the ongoing escalation between Iran and Israel that could lead to a direct clash, which could have repercussions in Iraq."
He explained, "The embassy is putting great pressure on the Iraqi government to take action regarding the file of the Iraqi factions, and to seek to stop their attacks from Iraqi territory towards Israeli targets, to avoid reactions that could lead to major consequences in the region."
Almost daily, Iraqi armed factions announce, through official statements, that they have targeted Israeli sites with drones and missiles launched from Iraqi territory.
