Tourism Authority to {Al Sabah}: Concluding agreements with Arab and regional countries

As part of the efforts made to develop the tourism sector in the country, the Ministry of Culture concluded several contracts with its counterparts in neighboring and regional countries to facilitate the delegation of tourist groups, while its inspection committees closed 400 unlicensed companies.
The Director of the Tourist Groups Department at the Ministry’s Tourism Authority, Mahdi Ghadhban Al-Saadi, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: There are agreements with the Iranian side to delegate tourist groups between the two sides, in addition to zeroing out (visas) with Iranian tourism companies, on the condition that we collect service fees for groups of five or more individuals at a value of five dollars per individual, ending with 200 individuals or more, in addition to the agreement to enhance the areas of investment, health insurance and security protection.
He pointed out that an agreement was also concluded on the tourism side with Turkey, as well as with Tunisia to activate transportation lines between the two countries and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, the Emirates, Bahrain, India and Pakistan, which have entered into force, in addition to concluding other agreements with other countries to delegate groups for religious tourism, noting the issuance of 14 tourist guides for each governorate, in addition to the Iraq tourist guide, in order for tourists to use them.
He added that there are huge projects currently being implemented, including the establishment of the five largest hotels in Baghdad, including the (Continental) near the Turkish embassy in the Green Zone and the (Heart of the World) Hotel and Mall in Al-Jadriya and the (Rixos) tourist hotel and (Grand Sheraton) and (Grand Millennium), which will be opened at the end of next year. Al-Saadi pointed out that the inspection and follow-up committees in the authority continue to follow up on licensed travel and tourism companies, the number of which has reached 1108 companies, including 400 companies in Baghdad, while the rest of the companies consider Karbala, Najaf and Basra as their centers.
He noted the closure of 400 violating and unlicensed companies, as a committee was formed by royal decree in 2012 to follow up and close unofficial travel and tourism companies, and it was recently updated by adding the National Security Agency to follow up on companies daily, close violating ones, and take legal action against them.
