    Al-Zawraa/ Mustafa Fleih:
Oil expert Hamza Al-Jawahiri confirmed that oil smuggled from Iraq is counted by OPEC as part of Iraq's daily production share, while explaining the mechanism of oil smuggling through Kurdistan.
Al-Jawahiri said in an interview with Al-Zawraa, "Oil is smuggled from the Kurdistan region secretly, and this is a crime. It is done by filling tanks from Iraqi wells and smuggling them to two neighboring countries and selling them at a quarter of the price or a little more.
" He added that "OPEC showed that the volume of smuggled oil reaches 220 thousand barrels per day," noting that "smuggling will not cause sanctions on Iraq because OPEC informed Iraq that this percentage is counted as part of Iraq's production share."
He pointed out that "oil is smuggled through influential parties in the region and the oil money goes to them, and they smuggle in order to weaken Iraq."
He pointed out that "the government cannot prove the existence of smuggling operations in light of the region's denial of the existence of smuggling operations," adding that "there were previously smuggling operations in southern Iraq, but OPEC exposed them, and now smuggling is only from Kurdistan."
Earlier, a member of the parliamentary oil and gas committee, Basem Al-Gharibawi, had called for the government to intervene to resolve the oil smuggling crisis from the Kurdistan region.
Al-Gharibawi said in a press statement that "oil smuggling from the Kurdistan region is a very dangerous issue, and we, as a committee, have addressed the Ministry of Oil with several letters talking about the seriousness of this issue and we have called on the government to resolve this crisis," warning that "the continuation of this smuggling will greatly affect Iraqi oil exports."[/size]
