Baghdad Municipality imposed fines ranging from 40 to 100 million dinars against owners of vertical buildings that violate regulations and laws in side streets and narrow alleys.
Director of the Adhamiya Municipality Department, Musab Al-Obaidi, told Al-Sabah: The municipality works according to the laws and regulations in force, which allow for the construction of two or three floors in residential areas, and several floors ranging from five to six in commercial areas, noting that the majority of buildings that were constructed with several floors were in violation of the laws and were not granted a building permit by the municipality.
He added that the municipality took strict legal measures against violators, which included stopping the construction of buildings outside the regulations to create small complexes within the vertical building, which was called (ownership apartments), to sell them to citizens at the expense of the public services system for infrastructure. Al-Obaidi added that the procedures also included filing lawsuits in the courts, in addition to imposing fines ranging from 40 to 100 million dinars against violators of the laws, noting that the aim of the fine is not only to collect money, but to implement the law and ensure that the violations are not repeated, indicating that some of the works that are still under implementation to build apartments that violate the laws and regulations have been completely removed.
A number of side streets in the Al-A'dhamiyah and Al-Waziriyah areas witnessed overcrowding with vertical construction, according to the opinions of the residents of the areas that "Al-Sabah" met, indicating that some of the alleys in those residential areas witnessed the construction of buildings and buildings that include small residential units sold directly to citizens, after some beneficiaries exploited the large areas that exceed 600 to 1000 square meters, to establish a small residential complex that includes more than 50 apartments distributed between six to seven floors, with a minimum of eight apartments per floor, which caused service problems, most notably the severe congestion of vehicles inside a single branch, in addition to the scarcity of clean water most of the time, in addition to the fluctuation of the electrical current supply due to the excess loads on the transformers.
