The Ministry of Environment clarified today, Saturday, that it is taking serious measures to combat pollution in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the Baghdad Governorate.
The ministry’s spokesman, Louay Al-Mukhtar, said, “The Ministry of Environment has been working for more than a week in coordination with the Baghdad Governorate, other institutions, and the Ministry of Interior in a major campaign to close polluting activities that violate environmental conditions, in addition to closing rock pits and preventing the burning of waste.”
Al-Mukhtar added, “Purchasing modern equipment and devices and implementing the contents of the national program for monitoring air quality are steps currently underway as part of the government program, and we are awaiting the release of funding from the Ministry of Finance to enhance these measures.”
This comes in conjunction with the decision of the Council of Ministers in its 42nd session, which obliges the Ministry of Environment to provide modern devices and equipment to treat types of environmental pollution and stop polluting activities, and to develop a national program to monitor air quality and emissions from various sources.
