Minister of Resources to Al-Sabah: Water storage is 10 billion m3 better

The Ministry of Water Resources revealed that the rainfall rates for the current winter will be lower and by specific percentages than last year, stressing that the country's water storage is better than the previous year by an amount of ten billion m3.
Minister Aoun Diab Abdullah said in a statement to "Al-Sabah": Rainfall during the current winter is less than its counterpart last year according to expectations and by specific percentages, and the lakes of the dams: Haditha, Hamrin, Dokan and Darbandikhan, in addition to Habbaniyah and Tharthar, contain large empty stored quantities exceeding 40 billion m3, stressing that the strategic water storage for the current year is better than the previous year by an amount of ten billion m3.
He added that his ministry succeeded in securing the first irrigation for the wheat crop for the current season, expressing his hope to secure acceptable water quotas for Hori Al-Chibayish and Al-Huwaizeh, despite the water scarcity
the country is suffering from, revealing that Iraq went through the most difficult droughts in decades last summer, which he attributed to the large human uses in Iraq, and the scarcity of water resources from Turkey, which did not exceed 400 m3/s or less sometimes on the Tigris River, and 300 m3/s or less for the Euphrates River.
Abdullah attributed the scarcity of water quotas coming from Turkey through the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers to the giant projects it is implementing in the two river basins, the most important of which is investing water in the (KAP) project located in southeastern Anatolia, which aims to create a water reserve exceeding 100 billion m3 by constructing 22 dams, in addition to other projects that reach the areas that the Turkish offender wants to include in agricultural plans, four million acres, in addition to establishing dams to generate electricity.
In the same context, he stressed that his ministry has completed strategic projects to address the water scarcity that the country is suffering from within the government program, which is the conversion from open to closed channels to reduce water losses and evaporation, in addition to limiting violations of water quotas to ensure the delivery of water to the governorates in good quantities and quality and the delivery of water to the distillation stations, considering the most important projects currently being worked on in this context, is the Basra pipe water, the completion rates of which have reached 60 percent with a total length of 55 km, and in two stages, the first of which is converting the open channel to a closed one with a length of 45 km, and the second was lined with a concrete blanket with a length of ten kilometers.
