    Summary of the minister Kerry call with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari

    Yesterday Foreign Minister phone Kerry and Iraqi Foreign Minister Zebari to discuss the recent developments in Iraq and the region. Kerry Minister thanked the Minister Zebari the efforts made by to assist in the organization of a unified meeting the leaders of Iraqi political and religious leaders at the end of May / May, and the meeting between Prime Minister Maliki and President of the Kurdistan Regional Government Massoud Barzani, on June 9. Kerry pointed out that what is encouraged is the positive tone of these meetings, calling on Iraqi leaders to build on these steps through the continuation of direct dialogue and to take strong action to address the political differences. The two ministers agreed on the importance of adopting a unified approach against violence and the need to address the legitimate grievances in a peaceful manner and in accordance with the Iraqi constitution.

    The two ministers discussed the issue of relations Iraqi - Kuwaiti Minister Kerry noted that impressed by the recent progress made by countries towards the settlement of the remaining issues that have been raised in accordance with Chapter VII (of the Charter of the United Nations). Kerry Minister announced that this progress is a clear example that the strong and persistent diplomacy to bear fruit. Kerry stressed the Minister Zebari that the United States will continue to work to help Iraq improve its relations with its neighbors in the region.

    The Ministers discussed as well as the situation in Syria and affirmed Kerry reaffirmed that the United States continues to work vigorously in order to reach a political solution and a second meeting in Geneva, but the use of chemical weapons and to increase the involvement of Hezbollah are showing lack of commitment to the (Syrian) negotiations and threaten to make a political settlement far fetched. The minister Kerry what the United States is concerned about the growing sectarian nature of the Syrian conflict on both sides, including the atrocities committed in the short and Deir ez-Zor in recent days. In this context, the minister announced Kerry expressed his appreciation to Minister Zebari statement on the current 11, which sought to dissuade Iraqis Alandham to fighting in Syria. The minister also urged Kerry Iraq to take every possible measure to stop the continued military supply to the Assad regime and thereby increase the pressure that will be necessary for a political solution to boot.

    The minister said Kerry that he looked forward to meeting with Foreign Minister Zebari in Washington under the auspices of the Joint Coordinating Committee established in accordance with the terms of the Strategic Framework Agreement. We will work with the Government of Iraq to make an appointment for this important meeting in the coming months.
