Israel plans to complete the construction of a new separation wall of 64 kilometers at the borders of the Gaza Strip until the end of 2019.
The commander of the southern region of the Israeli army, General Eyal Zamir, during a briefing on Wednesday, that the height of the new wall on the ground will be 40 meters, plus 6 meters underground, to prevent Hamas fighters from infiltrating into Israeli territory through offensive tunnels.
The wall, which is equipped with advanced monitoring equipment, will extend to the Mediterranean Sea because of the activities of the Palestinian resistance in the sea, he added, adding that the value of the project is estimated at $ 833 million.
Zamir stressed that the construction of the wall will continue despite the negative repercussions on the relations between the two parties, and the risk of a new war, and said: "This is the solution."
Since the beginning of this year, the Israeli army has destroyed more than 30 tunnel dug by Hamas into Israeli territory. The Palestinian resistance used this method of warfare during the recent war in Gaza, which cost Israel the lives of 12 soldiers.
