Israel is building a wall under the ground for fear of an intruder
Israel plans to build a huge underground wall on its southern border with Egypt and Gaza as a precautionary measure against the threat of infiltration of elements from an organization calling for tunnels, the Yediot Ahronot daily reported.
The newspaper said that "the length of the wall is planned to reach 3 kilometers with the continuation of construction work in a year and a half, while the project is estimated at 3.4 billion shekels (about 980 million dollars).
In the first phase of the project, only one kilometer will be built, but Israel considers that even this part of the wall will help the Israeli army monitor any tunnels dug near the Sinai border.
"The wall will be similar to the one currently being carried out by Israel on the border with the Gaza Strip, in accordance with a decision issued by the Israeli government after the end of the enduring shelf operation in 2014."
