Governor of Deir Ezzor: Army will arrive in the city "within hours"
The governor of the Syrian city of Deir al-Zour, Mohammad Ibrahim Samra, said that the Syrian army will arrive at a camp in the city that is under siege from the so-called Islamic state "within hours."
The governor said in a telephone conversation with Reuters that the militant organization's defenses were "collapsing" in the area and some residents had taken to the streets "to celebrate the arrival of the army."
More than half of the city has been under the control of the organization since 2014, but government forces and allied militias have launched military operations since the beginning of the year in the eastern areas of Sahrawiya, to try to reach Deir al-Zour to expel elements of the organization.
The Central Military Information, the media arm of Twitter for the Lebanese Hezbollah, said that the Syrian army is at a distance of about 10 kilometers from the government camp, which is besieged by the organization on the western outskirts of the city. Finished
