    The Tunisian navy managed to rescue 141 illegal immigrants from drowning in the sea off the coast of Tunisia.
     
    Brigadier-General Khalifa al-Shaibani, spokesman for the National Guard, said that "the floating units of the National Guard in Sfax province managed to thwart the process of crossing the sea border surreptitiously towards Italy, during which they arrested 98 illegal immigrants between the ages of 17 and 35, Siliana, El Kef, Tunisia and Medina. "
     
    He explained that this operation was introduced by the coasts of the island of Qirqneh from the province of Sfax, where they were found on board a fishing vessel length of 12 meters, and the capacity of absorbing 30 people in the maximum cases.
     
    He noted that the naval units of the National Guard, had seen that the sea water began to seep into the boat, and rushed to the transfer of illegal immigrants aboard the National Guards, before the ship sank.
     
    Meanwhile, Colonel Belhassen al-Waslati, spokesman for the Tunisian Ministry of Defense, announced that units of the Army of the Sea also seized on Saturday evening four boats carrying 43 illegal Tunisian immigrants.
     
    He added that these illegal immigrants, who had sailed from the port of Zarzis on Friday evening, towards the Italian coast, but they languished at sea, 90 km from the shores of the city of Zarzis in the province of Medenine, south of Tunis.
     
    Over the past few days, illegal immigration attempts have been increasing from the Tunisian coast towards Italy. The number of attempts thwarted by the Tunisian navy has also increased, as have dozens of deaths drowned off the coast of Tunisia.
     
    On Thursday, the Tunisian Ministry of Defense announced the rescue of 14 illegal immigrants of Algerian nationality from the death drowned at sea off the coast of the Tunisian city of Tabarka.
