Abadi: We need $ 100 billion to rebuild infrastructure

     Baghdad / Range

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Thursday called on foreign investors to help rebuild Iraq after a crushing defeat and progress in the country's reunification.
He stressed that Iraq needs about $ 100 billion to repair the infrastructure and cities destroyed by terrorist organizations.
"He will need up to $ 100 billion to repair dilapidated infrastructure and war-torn cities," Abbadi said in his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
He added that Iraq "needs assistance in dozens of projects, and that Baghdad is ready for a conference of two major donors in Kuwait next month will be held in coordination with the World Bank."
"It is a huge amount of money, we know that we can not manage it through grants, it is almost impossible, so we are now resorting to investment and reconstruction," he said.
"There are differences between countries that must be solved by dialogue, and our policy is not to interfere in the affairs of others," he said.
"We are looking for an increase in national quotas in the oil sector," he said. "We had an active oil sector and we want to return it now, and we will definitely do it if possible."
Prime Minister Haider Abadi met on Davos sidelines, Davos Economic Forum President Klaus Schwab, and met with US Secretary of State Rex Tilerson and his accompanying delegation, according to his press office.
The Republican majority leader in the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, also met.
"During the meeting, the two countries discussed the cooperation between the two countries and the situation in the region and continued support for Iraq after the great victories achieved by the terrorist gangs," Abadi's office said in a statement. On the tensions between Washington and Tehran, Abadi stressed that "these tensions cause harm to us and the region, and it will mean that there is a conflict somewhere, and Iraq will not be immune to it." "We are trying to maintain the status quo, and we hope that the relationship between the two sides will continue and dialogue will continue," he said.
"There is polarization that is a cause of conflict, and there is a vacuum that creates terrorism that leaks to the region. This was clear in Iraq and Syria, and we are working hard to reduce these polarizations," he said.
