TEHRAN: Iran's new gas pipeline to Iraq is ready for launch and will be officially opened, the executive director of the Iranian gas engineering and development company Hassan Montazer Turbti said on Monday.
He added in an interview with "IRNA" and "Economic News", the establishment of the pipeline, which aims to develop infrastructure and strengthen gas supplies in the western and northwestern provinces, as well as the export of gas to Iraq in the region of Naft Shahr and Shalamja.
Referring to the passage of this section of the sixth gas pipeline through the Karun and Das rivers, Turbti said, the pipeline was originally intended to pass through the bottom of the Karun River, which was not possible due to the rock substrate in Karun. The bridge; this work, despite the huge volume of water in Karon, was a rare achievement in the world.
He confirmed that the other part of the sixth pipeline, which is 122 kilometers and a diameter of 56 inches, extends from the region of Piston to Dahlan - Sanandaj, this project provides the ground for the export of gas to Iraq and power plants in Baghdad.
With the launch of new phases of South Pars gas field, gas production capacity in the country has increased and exports have been boosted.
The country's gas production capacity reached 850 million cubic meters per day, which will increase to one billion and 200 million cubic meters per day by the end of the Sixth Development Plan.
According to Hamid Reza Iraqi, executive director of the National Iranian Gas Company, the volume of gas exports of 200 million cubic meters per day in accordance with the Sixth Development Plan, and neighboring countries in the priority market for the export of Iranian gas.
The Iraqi stressed that the increase in Iranian gas exports, will lead to the participation of Iran in strengthening the political and economic strength of the country in the regional and international dimensions.
Currently, Iranian gas is exported to Turkey and Iraq, with an average of 30 million cubic meters of gas being exported daily to Turkey.
The average amount of gas exports to Baghdad is 10 million cubic meters per day, or 12 million in the second year, after which 25 million cubic meters of gas are delivered daily to Baghdad.
Gas exports are scheduled to start in Basra in southern Iraq in the first half of this year.
