After the Baghdad-Washington agreement... fears of American evasion to continue the presence of its forces inside Iraq
• Today 13:09

Information/ Baghdad...
The Iraqi and American negotiating parties have reached an agreement that leads to the withdrawal of American forces from the country in September of next year, which is something that most popular and political circles that reject the presence of occupying forces on Iraqi territory have called for, especially after Parliament voted in 2020 for the withdrawal of American forces from the country and obligated the federal government at the time to implement this order after the increasing crimes, most notably the assassination of the leaders of victory, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Qassem Soleimani, on the approaches to Baghdad International Airport.
The Iraqi-American agreement announced last Friday, despite being a demand that has been achieved, there is cautious optimism about America's intentions and evasions, as it uses Iraq as a strategic center for its forces in the region, and a starting point for its military operations in support of the Zionist entity, especially at this critical time that the region is experiencing and the difficult circumstances that threaten to slide into a comprehensive war between the axis of resistance, the Zionist entity and America, which may rule out the idea of an American withdrawal from Iraq.

“The US administration may evade the decision to withdraw its forces from Iraq, as it has demanded that a number of its forces remain in the city of Erbil, and this is unacceptable, as Washington has agendas inside Iraq and is working to stir up strife between the forces. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid any argument that justifies keeping its forces inside Iraq during the coming period, as keeping US forces in Iraq will cause major problems inside the country,” State of Law Coalition member Imran Karkoush told Al-Maalouma.
The American magazine, The Times, had indicated that the agreement stipulates that “the mission of the US-led coalition will end by September 2025 and US forces will withdraw from certain bases in the country, but the Iraqi government has agreed to allow the US military to continue using Iraq to support ongoing operations in neighboring Syria, where about 900 US soldiers are stationed, until 2026,” explaining that “the continued US support for Israel puts the remaining US forces in the line of fire, threatening the US military presence in the region, and so what the Biden administration has done paves the way for a more normal and practical relationship with the Iraqi government, but the question that has not yet been decided is whether the next president will finally realize that the United States has achieved everything it can in Iraq, and if so, when will the United States withdraw completely from the country?”

For its part, the Coordination Committee of the Iraqi Resistance confirmed in a statement received by /Al-Maalouma/, that "the issue of the exit of all foreign forces from Iraq, including the American ones, is one of the most important goals that the Coordination Committee of the Iraqi Resistance has set its sights on, and its men have made sacrifices and lives in redemption and sacrifice for the sovereignty of the state and the dignity of the people, and while welcoming the efforts made by the government to expel the so-called (International Coalition Forces) from the country, the Coordination Committee believes that the American side is not honest, and that it is trying to procrastinate the issue, to gain time."
The coordination stressed that "the agreement that is to be concluded must explicitly include three basic points," which are: (that the exit be comprehensive and according to a clear and agreed upon timetable), (that their operations that they want to carry out inside Syrian territory should not be launched from Iraqi territory, as this is a violation of the Iraqi constitution and the good neighborly relationship between the Iraqi and Syrian states), and (not granting immunity to foreign military forces, whatever their names)."
Meanwhile, the head of the Wujoud Movement, Muhammad Abu Sa'ida, believes that "the Kurds have a special position towards the Americans and reject any exit of American forces from the country, and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein did not deal with the file with the same Barzani attitude, but rather presented himself as American in order to serve Washington's interests and ensure the continued presence of its forces inside Iraq." End 25
