    The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Science and Technology Abdul Razzaq al-Issa on Saturday discussed with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano the liquidation of the nuclear reactor of Tammuz.

    "The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Science and Technology Abdul Razzaq Al-Issa met with the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano in Vienna, and discussed mechanisms and treatments implemented by Iraqi experts in the liquidation of the reactor in the context of Iraq's international obligations," the Ministry of Higher Education said in a statement, .

    He added that "Al-Issa reviewed during the meeting the procedures of Iraqi institutions concerned in the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology on the liquidation of the remnants of the reactor and the steps and the timing of the treatment program and called for more international support for Iraq in the field of the use of nuclear technology in medical needs and the establishment of a special health center to address Cancer in Iraq ".

    "The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano, affirmed their readiness to exert maximum cooperation with Iraq with regard to the liquidation of the remnants of the Tuzu reactor and the establishment of a specialized health center for cancer."

    The statement said that "the Minister of Higher Education held a meeting with officials of the technical cooperation section of the IAEA and discussed the practical procedures for the liquidation of waste at the site of the reactor and agreed to the arrival of a number of Iraqi experts in a coordination program at the headquarters of the International Agency in Vienna during the next two weeks followed by the visit of international experts To Baghdad to follow up the implementation of the joint scientific plan and procedures for the reactor. "

    He added that "Al-Issa held a meeting with experts of the Nuclear Security Department in the Organization and discussed mechanisms of cooperation with the relevant institutions in Iraq and common understanding towards the development of Iraqi capabilities in the field of nuclear security."

    Israel launched a military offensive on June 5, 1981, which resulted in the bombing of the Iraqi nuclear reactor, which drew international criticism, including the US government, and on 19 the Security Council unanimously adopted a "strong condemnation" of the Israeli military offensive.

    Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Dr. Abdul Razzaq al-Issa discussed the liquidation of the remnants of the nuclear reactor with the International Atomic Energy Agency at a meeting in Vienna.

    The official spokesman of the ministry, Dr. Haider al-Aboudi said in a statement that "Al-Issa met with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano in Vienna, and discussed the mechanisms and treatments implemented by Iraqi experts in the liquidation of the reactor in July within the context of Iraq's international obligations."


    Al-Issa reviewed during the meeting the procedures of the Iraqi institutions concerned in the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology on the liquidation of the remnants of the Tuzuz reactor and the steps and timing of the treatment program. "The minister called on the IAEA to provide more support to Iraq in the field of the use of nuclear technology in medical needs. And the establishment of a special health center to treat cancer in Iraq. "


    "The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano, expressed his great appreciation for the visit of the delegation of Iraq to the headquarters of the Agency and the follow-up and coordination for this important project, which falls within the international obligations of Iraq," adding "the readiness of the International Atomic Energy Agency to maximize cooperation with Iraq with regard to the liquidation of remnants of the reactor and the establishment of a specialized health center for cancer.


    The Minister of Higher Education Dr. Abdul Razzaq al-Issa held a meeting with experts of the nuclear security department in the organization and discussed the mechanisms of cooperation with the relevant institutions in Iraq and common understanding towards the development of Iraqi capabilities in the field of nuclear security.
