BAGHDAD / The head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faik Zaidan, said Tuesday that the constitution and the parliament did not give the judiciary full independence.
"We were hoping that the constitution would protect the independence of the Iraqi judiciary, but the legislator has put down texts that reduce that independence, Zidane said in a speech at the margins of the Rafidain meeting in Baghdad .
He pointed out that "the decisions of the Supreme Judicial Council are considered in accordance with the Constitution and many of them are not recognized by politicians, pointing out that" allowing political parties to interfere with judicial options represents a significant threat to the judiciary . "
He continued, "The judiciary responded to terrorism with all courage and we provided 67 martyrs of the judges at a time when there were no more than 500 judges."
