BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The
talks with Iran were held in accordance with the agreement reached with the US State Department and the US Treasury, an official source at the central bank said Thursday.
"The latter held meetings with the Central Bank of Iran in Baghdad on the sidelines of a visit by the governor of the Central Bank of Iran and his accompanying delegation to Iraq," an authorized source at the bank said in a statement received by Mawazine News.
"The meetings focused on examining the executive mechanisms to pay the debts owed by the Republic of Iraq to the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of the exceptions granted to Iraq by the sanctions imposed on Iran," he said.
She pointed out that "the mechanisms that have been discussed and agreed upon come within the framework of the permitted and agreed technical with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Treasury of the United States," stressing that "the Central Bank of Iraq is keen to protect the Iraqi banking system and its international banking relations."
