    (Reuters) - Iraqi customs authorities said on Saturday they had foiled the smuggling of a large quantity of cigarettes into 12 containers at the northern port of Umm Qasr in the southernmost province of Basra.

    The authorities said in a statement today that it was able at the customs center of Umm Qasr al-Shamali on Saturday, 2019/4/20, and in cooperation with its assistants in the port and under the supervision of the director of the region and the inspection and prosecution, investigation and control sections in the southern region of the smuggling of 12 containers (40) feet and two size (20) feet containing (17680) Carton type oscars. 

    "The cigarettes were hidden inside the containers behind (840) cartons of disposable corks," the statement said.

    The authorities said in a statement that they "took legal action against them and referred them to justice."
