The first deputy governor of Basra, Mohammed Taher al-Tamimi, discussed with the South Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) the ways to improve food security in Basra and how to develop the infrastructure of this sector in the future.
"The local government in Basra is supportive of the projects implemented by FAO in the province," Tamimi said in a statement to his media office.
He stressed the need to develop a role for the University of Basra, and the Directorate of Agriculture in Basra to establish such projects, through the experience that it possesses, and the studies prepared and developed to how to improve and develop and revive the agricultural reality.
"Basra needs expertise and support from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to promote agriculture, health, livestock and water resources to benefit and benefit from its projects in terms of technical expertise and capacity building," he said.
