Iraqi electricity completes final procedures to link the Gulf energy to the south

Electricity Minister Luay al-Khatib held talks on the Gulf energy linkage.
According to a ministry statement, two-day "important" meetings were held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Electricity, which began on Wednesday, 28/8/2019, in a lengthy discussion session between the Minister and the delegation of the Executive Management of the Gulf Linkage Authority headed by Eng. Ahmed Al-Ibrahim. Corresponding to 29/8/2019.
He added that the talks dealt with the finalization of the final linking process to be held in the coming period, where they discussed the requirements of the final linkage technical, financial and legal, which will contribute to accelerate its procedures.
The Iraqi national grid will be provided with a capacity of 500 MW as needed as a first phase, which will enhance the power supply to the southern regions of the country and provide the basis for the exchange of electricity.
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity, confirmed the ministry's readiness to develop the reality of transmission and distribution networks, which will contribute to increasing the reliability of the electrical network throughout the country.
The participants stressed the need to take into account the element of time, and shorten the time in order to finish this project as soon as possible as it is one of the giant projects that promote economic and social ties between Member States.
Iraqi electricity says that the Gulf linkage project will benefit the entire Iraqi national energy system, and is an investment in the field of energy and provide it as a strategic commodity that can be marketed across the Gulf countries to the European countries in the long run.
