Sadr in Trump's hospitality .. Has changed attitudes?

    Kalkamsh Press / Baghdad
In a precedent seen as a new page for the Sadrists' relationship with the United States, Jaafar al-Sadr, the only son of the late Shiite cleric Mohammed Baqer al-Sadr, appeared in US President Donald Trump's meeting with Iraqi President Barham Saleh.
Sadr's first appearance in a meeting with an American leader has caught the attention of social media pundits, who wondered whether the Sadrist movement was wiping out its traditional slogan “Death to America” with a new opening to the Donald Trump administration.
Jaafar al-Sadr is the only son of the late religious authority Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr, who founded the Islamic Dawa Party in 1957, and the cousin of Sadr's leader Moqtada al-Sadr.
President Barham Saleh published pictures of his meeting with the US president in the presence of an Iraqi delegation, but Mgridin drew attention to the focus of Barham Saleh and his emphasis on the presence of Jaafar al-Sadr during the meeting and reminded him by name in the meeting only, they said.
While some saw it as a gesture to ease tensions with the US administration, others said it was likely to be a change in Sadr's behavior. “Can this meeting be described as a change in the behavior and political approach of the Sadrist movement or is it a coincidence? You could be slogans and hostility to America only to followers and not include those close to Mr. Sadr. ”
Iraqi politician Mohammed al-Wadi said in a tweet that Jaafar al-Sadr "has become part of the official diplomatic body in Iraq not to mention his goal to get to the post of prime minister," which formulates his attendance meetings with the US administration, especially with reports of a meeting with senior adviser Jared Kushner President Donald Trump.
Jaafar al-Sadr returned to the political front last April, after he disappeared from attention after his resignation from the House of Representatives in February 2011, in protest against what he described as "deterioration of services and the government can not provide anything to the people."
Jaafar al-Sadr is currently head of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences at the Foreign Ministry, after the Iraqi parliament voted in April.
Meanwhile, President Barham Saleh said during the meeting that Iraq is responsible for the protection of its territory and sovereignty, while US President Donald Trump pointed out that the elimination of ISIS is a "great achievement."
Saleh explained that the regional situation was reviewed and the problems were solved through dialogue based on common interests in confronting extremism.
For his part, US President Donald Trump, during the meeting that "the elimination of ISIS is a great achievement," noting that "relations with Iraq is long and good."
The presidency, revealed yesterday, that Saleh met with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the meetings of the United Nations, while a source familiar with the "meeting aims to strengthen relations between the two countries," noting that "the developments in the region topped Saleh and Trump talks in New York." .
