Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has confirmed that Moscow will implement contracts to supply weapons to Iraq.
"We have a common view on the need to implement the decisions of the Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation, signed in April, and we will also implement existing contracts for the supply of Russian military products to Iraq," Lavrov said after talks with the Iraqi foreign minister.
The foreign ministers of the two countries, Sergei Lavrov and Mohammed Ali al-Hakim, exchanged congratulations on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The two ministers expressed their intention to develop cooperation between the two countries.
Since the Soviet era, Iraq and Russia have had close and distinguished relations in various fields, including military-technical cooperation, oil production, electric power, agriculture and irrigation, as well as cooperation in culture and science.
