The Ministry's director of information, Najm Al-Aqabi, said in a press statement: “The ministry decided to include 600,000 new families with social welfare, according to the budget allocations for the year 2020.” He pointed out that "the governorates of Dhi Qar, Diwaniyah and Muthanna will be the most numerous in the number of families benefiting from the new coverage."
Al-Okabi explained that “the criteria for including these families were based on the poverty line and population density according to the form designated for this purpose, as well as the report of the social researchers who made field visits to these families and in all governorates.” Noting that "the data collected showed that the governorates of Dhi Qar, Diwaniyah, and Muthanna are the poorest compared to other governorates."
